A man driving recklessly led police on a wild chase through San Diego, culminating at a popular beach. Beachgoers watched in shock as officers apprehended the suspect on Sunday morning.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. when San Diego Police Department received multiple reports of reckless driving in the Pacific Beach area. Witnesses described the driver performing dangerous maneuvers in a tan or gold Nissan Frontier, nearly hitting vehicles and obstacles.
Police responded swiftly, spotting the truck moving west toward the ocean. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit.
Officers decided to terminate the chase due to the driver’s increasing disregard for safety. However, they later located the truck again. The suspect failed to yield, prompting another pursuit, which was also terminated.
By this time, the Nissan was linked to felony evading. Police saturated the area to locate the vehicle. With the help of the department’s Airborne Law Enforcement helicopter overhead, officers tracked the truck as it drove onto the beach.
Video shows bewildered beachgoers observing officers converge on the pickup. The driver, 25-year-old Griffin Charles Foy, stood with his hands raised as officers arrested him.
A police K-9 unit was present but wasn’t deployed during Foy’s arrest. Authorities said the nature of the violations warranted a high-risk vehicle stop.
Foy was arrested without further incident and booked into San Diego Central Jail. He faces charges of felony evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, and driving under the influence of drugs.
No injuries occurred during the chase. Police ensured public safety during the high-risk incident.
