Uganda Declared Ebola-Free Amid Congo’s Epidemic

Uganda has reached a significant health milestone by being declared free of Ebola. This announcement follows the discharge of the last Ebola patient from hospital care on July 16. The World Health Organization has confirmed Uganda’s status as Ebola-free.

In contrast, the Democratic Republic of Congo, which borders Uganda, is still grappling with a severe and rapidly spreading Ebola epidemic. Local health authorities report that the outbreak in Congo has resulted in at least 2,744 deaths, with 5,713 confirmed cases.

This situation underscores the variability of Ebola’s impact across regions. While Uganda celebrates this public health achievement, Congo continues to face challenges in containing the virus.

The efforts in Uganda demonstrate the effectiveness of medical interventions and strategies to combat Ebola. Such measures include the use of disinfectants and stringent hospital care protocols, evidenced by the practices observed during the outbreak in May.
