Paula Scanlan and Nick Kyrgios React to Tennis and Women’s Sports Issues

Paula Scanlan Praises Aryna Sabalenka

Paula Scanlan, a known advocate for women’s sports, recently appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ to commend Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player. Sabalenka voiced her support for the World Tennis Association’s stance on biological males competing against women. Scanlan, who once competed alongside transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, also shared thoughts on Martina Navratilova’s comment regarding Caitlin Clark’s neutral position on this topic, calling it a ‘total bailout.’

Nick Kyrgios Faces Suspension Amid Cocaine Use

Nick Kyrgios, a former Wimbledon finalist, disclosed that he faces a provisional suspension after testing positive for cocaine during the Mallorca Open in June. The 31-year-old Australian acknowledged his mistake in a statement via Instagram, expressing regret to fans, family, sponsors, and especially the children who look up to him. He described the recent years marked by injuries as challenging, leaving him feeling ‘helpless and alone.’

In his Instagram Story, Kyrgios apologized, recognizing the impact of his actions on young fans. Despite the setbacks, he remains hopeful for lighter sanctions, considering past cases such as Dan Evans’ in 2017. Evans also tested positive for cocaine and received a year-long suspension.

Kyrgios Reflects on Career Challenges

Kyrgios reflected on personal struggles, mentioning how injuries and the nearing end of his career have been tough. He shared that tennis chose him, highlighting the difficulty of letting go of the sport that defined his life. Despite these internal battles, Kyrgios doesn’t seek excuses but aims to provide context about his current situation.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency reported Kyrgios’ sample was collected on June 22, with results confirmed by July 17. Prior to this, Kyrgios criticised tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek for their doping tests. Kyrgios, who suffered a knee injury in October 2022, returned to action in 2025 but struggled to regain his form, as seen with a 1-4 record and early exits in tournaments.

Despite recent challenges, Kyrgios defeated Aryna Sabalenka in December 2025 during a ‘Battle of the Sexes’ exhibition match in Dubai, showcasing his resilience amidst personal and professional adversity.
