Analyzing the 2026 Senate and House Midterm Elections

2026 Midterm Election Preview

America’s Newsroom anchor Bill Hemmer discussed the 2026 midterm election power rankings with contributor Karl Rove on the program. Rove highlighted four pivotal Senate races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, and Ohio. He also reviewed 16 key House toss-up seats. Additionally, Rove examined the significant August 4 Michigan Democratic primary between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and establishment candidate Haley Stevens.

Wyoming’s Political Changes

In Wyoming, Republican Secretary of State Chuck Gray secured the GOP nomination for the state’s at-large U.S. House seat, replacing Rep. Harriet Hageman. Hageman is pursuing a Senate seat. Gray emerged victorious over competitors like businessman Steve Friess and Reid Rasner.

Harriet Hageman, who gained attention for defeating former Rep. Liz Cheney in 2022, decided to run for the Senate. This decision opened multiple electoral races in Wyoming, an unusual occurrence for the state. The governorship, Senate seat, and House seat will all see new candidates in the same election cycle for the first time in over 30 years.

Key Wyoming Primary Developments

The Republican primary to replace Hageman drew a large and competitive field. Despite the intensity, neither Trump nor Hageman endorsed any candidates in this race, leading contenders to vie for the same conservative bloc of voters. This lack of endorsement marked a contrast to other Wyoming primaries where Trump supported Hageman for the Senate and Megan Degenfelder for governor.

The winner of this Republican nomination is expected to succeed in November, given Wyoming’s strong Republican leaning. Trump secured the state by nearly 46 percentage points in the 2024 election, his largest margin across any state.

Political Landscape in Wyoming

Historically, Wyoming has remained a Republican stronghold. The state has elected only one Democrat to statewide office in over 30 years. The Republican Party maintains control of all statewide elected positions and commands significant majorities in the state legislature.
