New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. drew attention for an incident during a matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. After missing an easy grounder, Chisholm quickly shifted blame to the second-base umpire.
In the scoreless second inning at Camden Yards, with runners on first and second, Carlos Rodon pitched to Christian Franklin. The result should have been an inning-ending double-play ball aimed straight at Chisholm.
Chisholm mishandled the ball, which loaded the bases. He attempted to blame second-base umpire Ryan Additon, pointing at him as the play unfolded. Replay footage showed Additon positioned correctly, undermining Chisholm’s claim.
Despite this, Rodon managed to contain the situation. With the bases loaded, he struck out the next two batters, Carlos Narvaez and Jackson Holliday, keeping the score unchanged. The Yankees eventually secured a 3-1 victory.
The incident reflects a challenging 2026 season for Chisholm. He entered the game with a .216 batting average after being benched recently. Chisholm himself admitted earlier, “I’ve sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves.”
Fellow Yankee Anthony Rizzo previously commented on Chisholm’s behavior, labeling it ‘immaturity,’ especially after a separate ejection incident. The game’s outcome provided Chisholm some relief, as Rodon’s efforts prevented his error from affecting the final score.
