Social media users have reacted strongly to a video featuring Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey at the Black Entrepreneur State Fair. The mayor displayed awkward dance moves in the widely-shared clip, drawing mockery online.
The video, originally posted on TikTok, shows Mayor Frey dancing to hip-hop music, wearing sunglasses. His interaction with the emcee while dancing prompted widespread criticism. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson remarked on the performance, questioning Frey’s behavior both in this instance and during a previous event involving Somali food. Johnson described Frey as engaging in a ‘walking humiliation ritual.’
“What an embarrassment,” commented one user.
Another user, Emily Jashinsky, humorously preferred Frey to defund the police instead. Ian Miller from Outkick critiqued the Democrats, commenting on the party’s theatrical nature and lack of talent, suggesting these traits have pushed them into politics. Some social media users criticized white liberals like Frey for their willingness to play into such public antics.
The Black Entrepreneur State Fair was a weeklong event celebrating Black-owned businesses, held at Midtown Global Market in Minneapolis from August 9th to 15th.
In recent times, other Democratic politicians have faced similar criticism. Critics have often found their performances, aimed at engaging with voters through lighthearted activities, awkward and bizarre.
Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed also drew attention online. A resurfaced campaign video featured him parodying the children’s show “Blue’s Clues” to explain voting by mail. Dressed in a green-striped shirt, El-Sayed sang and pulled a ballot from a mailbox in the style of the show’s “Mail Time.” He ended the video with a twist on the show’s catchphrase, aiming to motivate voters with “Vote ski-doo. We can too!” This video received negative reactions, with some labeling it as “the most cringeworthy political advert.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Mayor Frey’s office for a comment on the viral video.
