Kim Mathers, 51, from Chesterfield Township, was jailed on Thursday after a district court judge found her guilty of numerous violations related to her drug and alcohol testing. The sentence followed a request from prosecutors to revoke her bonds.

During the court hearing, Judge William Hackel of 42-II District Court in New Baltimore addressed Mathers’ case. Prosecutors emphasized that she had been given two months to enroll in a treatment program after her second charge in May. They highlighted that she had not taken any steps to enter such a program.

Assistant Macomb Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy voiced serious concerns regarding the repetitive nature of the offenses, arguing that Mathers posed a risk to herself and the community. He recommended immediate imprisonment until a suitable treatment program could be found.

Attorney’s Response and Violations

Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, disagreed with the prosecution’s allegations but did not contest the bond violations. Jeremy Stradley from EMS Testing and Freedom Bail Bonds was prepared to testify about the test results; however, due to Barkovic’s stipulation, his testimony was deemed unnecessary.

Outside the courtroom, Barkovic stated, “Kim Mathers is a wonderful young woman, and she’s being victimized by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.”

Background and Legal Troubles

Mathers, the former wife of rapper Eminem, has faced several legal issues this year. Her troubles began with a drunk driving arrest in February, followed by another in May. She failed to attend a court hearing in June, resulting in a bench warrant.

On July 11, she was hospitalized for passing out at her home, where she allegedly assaulted a police officer. These actions led to felony charges of resisting arrest.

Mathers’ legal challenges continue with a scheduled September 3 probable cause conference. She was also due for sentencing on impairments related to a February hit-and-run accident involving impaired driving with children in her vehicle.

In another incident leading to felony charges, Mathers is accused of drunk driving in Chesterfield Township in May. Her vehicle struck another car, exacerbating her legal predicaments. McCarthy urged the judge to jail Mathers to secure her participation in a treatment program, expressing concerns about her offenses’ seriousness and frequency.
