North Carolina state Representative Jennifer Balkcom has been selected as the new GOP nominee for the 11th Congressional District. This follows the decision of incumbent Rep. Chuck Edwards to withdraw from the re-election race. The North Carolina Republican Party 11th Congressional District Executive Committee endorsed Balkcom on Monday.

U.S. Senator Ted Budd and U.S. Representative Greg Murphy, both Republicans from North Carolina, have expressed their support for Balkcom. Her nomination comes after Rep. Edwards withdrew following recommendations for censure by the House Ethics Committee.

“I’m blessed to receive the Republican nomination for the 11th Congressional District,” Balkcom stated, expressing her commitment to opposing what she describes as the Democrat Party’s radical agenda.

Balkcom will contest the general election against Democratic candidate Jamie Ager.

North Carolina Republican Party executive director Zach Almond expressed satisfaction with Balkcom’s nomination, citing her values and experience in agriculture, banking, and finance as assets for Western North Carolina.

Rep. Chuck Edwards had previously won the GOP primary convincingly. His decision to end his re-election campaign was announced after a House Ethics Committee report recommended his censure due to inappropriate conduct towards female staffers.

The report accused Edwards of engaging in unprofessional behavior, including giving gifts and making comments on the appearance of the staffers. Edwards denied any intention of romantic or sexual advances.
