Molly Sims has voiced her frustration with the false beauty narratives often spread in Hollywood. In a recent interview with US Magazine, the 53-year-old model criticized the industry for misleading claims about maintaining a camera-ready appearance.
“Early on, other models would help you,” she shared. “They would openly discuss their beauty routines, like getting specific treatments or following diets.” However, she noted that Hollywood often promotes simplistic explanations. “People say, ‘I just drink a lot of water and sleep well.’ I find that hard to believe,” she remarked.
Sims mentioned a dinner with friends where the conversation revolved around cosmetic procedures. “We discussed how individuals manage their looks,” she stated. “It’s important for women everywhere to realize that aesthetic enhancements are common, and beauty isn’t solely about rest and hydration.”
Reflecting on her past, Sims talked about starting her career during the ‘heroin chic’ era, highlighting the pressure to conform to a particular aesthetic. She recalled how expectations demanded being significantly underweight.
“I transitioned from a carefree college environment to an industry with harsh standards,” she explained. “It was a challenging shift that affected me deeply.”
Today, Sims approaches beauty with an emphasis on health over youth. “My aim is to maintain my health at every stage of life,” she said. “I prioritize wellness over being thin.”
Sims, who began her modeling career after leaving Vanderbilt University in the early 1990s, gained fame through her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Her career includes numerous returns to the magazine, most recently in 2026.
She reflected on this longevity with appreciation, citing personal growth. “If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be to enjoy the journey,” she wrote on Instagram.
On social media, Sims shared her favorite health tip: bone broth. She listed its benefits, such as aiding digestion, enhancing sleep, and supporting joints.
