Verizon customers reported extensive service disruptions across the U.S. on Wednesday. By 1:10 p.m. ET, Downdetector logged over 2,400 outage reports. The platform, which gathers user-submitted status updates, noted a significant increase in complaints starting mid-morning.

Verizon, through its Verizon Wireless subsidiary, offers mobile, landline, and broadband services nationwide. The company has not yet commented on the outbreak’s cause, leaving the duration of the disruptions uncertain.

Details on Affected Services

The majority of users reported mobile phone issues. Some also experienced disruptions with 5G Home Internet and mobile internet services. A heat map on Downdetector showed significant outage clusters in cities like Albuquerque, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.

Google Trends data at 1:30 p.m. ET revealed that most searches for “Verizon” came from New Mexico.

Resolution of the Outage

No updates on resolving the outage are available. Verizon explains that mobile network outages occur when unexpected disruptions simultaneously affect multiple cell sites. This can interrupt voice, data, and messaging services in the affected areas. During this time, customers may notice a Network Notification after signing into My Verizon, which provides details on affected services and the current repair status.

Verizon does not offer a universal restoration timeline. The duration of an outage depends on its cause, the number of affected sites, and how quickly repairs can be made. Customers are advised to check the network status page for real-time updates. If no outage is listed but service remains down, users should try troubleshooting steps like restarting the device, checking coverage, and ensuring Airplane Mode is turned off.

Maintaining Connectivity

During an outage, Verizon suggests connecting to Wi-Fi and enabling Wi-Fi Calling to maintain voice and data access. Devices automatically reconnect when the service is restored, although a restart may help establish a fresh signal.

For customers experiencing service loss for more than 24 consecutive hours due to a confirmed outage, Verizon states that users on standard monthly plans can request a bill credit within 180 days.

This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
