Federal prosecutors have requested a judge dismiss the indictment against former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn. Hearn was previously charged with destroying government property by allegedly damaging the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. New evidence indicates the damage resulted from a contractor’s flawed installation, not intentional vandalism.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. had accused Hearn of causing over $1,000 worth of damage to the sealant at the Reflecting Pool. This sealant was part of a recent renovation project supported by President Trump. Hearn has consistently denied involvement in any wrongdoing related to the incident.

When asked for further comments, the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not provide additional information. Attempts to reach the Justice Department and Hearn’s legal representatives have been made by CBS News.
