Sean Payton Honored to Present Drew Brees at Hall of Fame Induction

Sean Payton, now the head coach of the Denver Broncos, remains emotionally connected to his time with the New Orleans Saints. Recently, Payton received a FaceTime call from Drew Brees, his former quarterback with the Saints. Brees asked Payton to present him at his Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio, a request that moved Payton to tears.

Sean Payton and Drew Brees“Honest to God, I can’t believe you just did that,” Payton said in response to the call, as he wiped his eyes. Brees expressed his affection, saying, “I can’t wait. I love you.” Payton admitted feeling “caught off guard” during the call.

Reflecting on their time together, Payton commented, “It was just a lot — 15 years together.” He acknowledged how easily people take quarterback-coach relationships for granted, yet he is proud of their successful ending. “I’m excited for him. As a coach, it’s an honor to be asked,” Payton shared.

The pair’s 15-year journey included a Super Bowl victory in 2010 and multiple successful seasons in the NFC. Brees, who retired in 2020, ranks second in NFL history for passing yards, completions, and touchdowns. This recognition solidifies a career marked by impressive achievements.

Brees will be entering the Hall of Fame alongside Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, and Roger Craig as part of the Class of 2026.
