Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, is dealing with a serious family matter. His wife, Mia Bieniemy, has been moved out of intensive care following a shooting in their Northern Virginia home. This incident took place last Sunday night in Ashburn, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, during a session at the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, spoke about Mia’s condition. He noted that she is making steady progress.

She’s doing great. She’s doing better and great from where she was, out of the ICU unit and making progress,” Reid said. “So, we’re happy about that. EB (Eric Bieniemy) is still with her and that part’s important that that stays in place.

The couple’s son, 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested. He faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. This information comes from the local sheriff’s statement. The authorities have described the event as a “domestic” disturbance but have not disclosed any motive.

Police responded to a dramatic scene on Sunday evening. Video and audio recordings show law enforcement carrying Mia from the house. Others approached with rifles drawn, leading to the arrest of Elijah Bieniemy. Despite her injuries, Mia had the strength to call 911 herself, according to Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

The criminal complaint details that a .22-caliber Ruger was used in the shooting. Mia sustained injuries in her left forearm and shoulder as the projectile traveled across her chest. Elijah Bieniemy is now held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. His next court date is set for August 31.

Eric Bieniemy, who ranks among the most notable assistant coaches in professional football, oversees the Chiefs’ offense. This includes stars like quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. It is still unclear when Bieniemy will return to coaching duties. The Chiefs begin their preseason on August 15 and their regular season on September 14.

“We stay in touch with him, keep him abreast of everything that’s going on,” Reid stated. “He’s got the (practice session) tape, watching whatever spare time he’s got there.”

Attempts to contact representatives from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Public Defender on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
