The Booker Prize longlist for this year, unveiled on Tuesday, features 13 books that span various genres, including thriller, dystopian sci-fi, and love story. Among the notable names on the list are two previous winners who have made a return. Douglas Stuart, who won in 2020 with Shuggie Bain, and Marlon James, who secured the prize in 2015 for A Brief History of Seven Killings, are both recognized again.

Elizabeth Strout has also been nominated for the third time with her latest work, The Things We Never Say. The list includes three debut authors, adding fresh voices to the prestigious award.

Mary Beard, chair of the Booker Prize 2026 judges, remarked, “Every writer on our longlist brilliantly musters the power of words on the page to take the reader to new places, to see old places from new angles, to change minds.”

The Booker Prize is awarded annually to an author whose book was published in English in the UK and/or Ireland between October 1 and September 30. Last year, David Szalay won the 2025 prize with Flesh.

Six shortlisted authors are set to receive £2,500 each, equivalent to about $3,300. The winner, to be announced at a ceremony in London on November 9, will receive a prize of £50,000, which is approximately $66,000.
