Mall Incident and Fire Response

Several people remain trapped in a mall following the earthquake, according to local fire officials. An explosion occurred on the second floor of the AEON Mall, as reported by NHK. Footage showed numerous fire trucks and debris in the parking lot, illustrating the extent of the damage.

Widespread Disruption and Damage

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake has led to significant disruption. Passengers gathered at JR Hakata Station due to suspended bullet train services. In Kumamoto Prefecture, numerous fallen shelves and office equipment displayed the quake’s impact. A notable structural collapse occurred in Kumamoto City, affecting a store’s exterior wall.

Building Collapses and Fires

At least 12 buildings have collapsed, with several people trapped, as reported by NHK. Most incidents occurred in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture. There were seven recorded fires in the region, adding to the emergency response efforts already in place.
