Liam Barrett is following a notable family tradition at St. Charles East. The 6-foot-7 junior is transitioning from right to left tackle for his second varsity season. Despite a desire to catch the ball, Barrett embraced the offensive line path, influenced by his brothers. He has found valuable resources in high school, coupled with support from his two older brothers who serve as role models. His decision has proved rewarding.
Liam is the youngest son of Larry and Dena Barrett. Dylan and Austin paved the way on the offensive line for St. Charles East, college, and possibly the NFL. Dylan, a 6-4, 325-pound guard, moved from Wisconsin to Iowa State, recently joining the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. Austin, a 6-5, 320-pound tackle, started at Indiana, later joining Dylan at Iowa State for his redshirt senior season.
Their brother Evan is considering medical school after his senior year at Illinois-Chicago. Dylan noted the age gap among them, explaining how Liam, born in 2010, bonded the siblings. Backyard games were Liam’s introduction to football.
Liam described these games as ‘razzle-dazzle,’ filled with challenges from his brothers, who guided his nutrition and exercise habits. Evan, although not a football player, is a pivotal figure for academic support.
Barrett is prepared for his future, with offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, and two MAC schools. Having grown from 230 to 260 pounds, Barrett is expected to outsize his brothers.
Coach Possley noted Dylan’s physical prowess and Austin’s athleticism, both as benchmarks for evaluating Liam’s potential. He envisions Liam as a unique blend of his siblings’ strengths.
Liam trains with Naperville-based OL Mafia, enhancing strength, speed, and footwork. He emphasizes the importance of intelligence in offensive line play.
Possley acknowledged Barrett’s aggressive field demeanor, which Liam confirmed with a readiness to protect his quarterback, Cruz Herrera.
