Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan has openly criticized New York City’s sanctuary city policies. He specifically targeted Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s unwillingness to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Homan explained that such policies could jeopardize public safety by allowing criminal aliens to remain in the city.

Homan’s remarks follow a series of legislative actions from New York Governor Kathy Hochul and controversies in Memphis, relating to immigration and ICE activity. Speaking on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ Homan stressed the Trump administration’s stance and readiness to increase ICE operations in New York City despite local policies.

“ICE is operating in New York City today,” Homan stated, indicating that enhanced operations are forthcoming. He refrained from detailing the plans, noting that revealing them could prompt opposition from well-funded groups aiming to impede ICE’s actions.

New York City maintains its sanctuary status, a point of pride for Mayor Mamdani. He reiterated the city’s stance against cooperating with federal immigration enforcement in a recent New York Times interview. Mamdani emphasized that the city would not partake in deportations based on the federal government’s broad targeting of immigrants.

Homan responded to these comments, ensuring that ICE’s mission will continue. “Every illegal alien in this nation that’s here illegally and crossed the border illegally needs to be deported,” Homan said. He stressed that obeying immigration laws is crucial and encouraged those who disagree to advocate for legislative changes through Congress.
