A Louisiana resident faces serious charges after allegedly killing a deputy U.S. marshal during an attempt to serve an arrest warrant, as federal authorities revealed on Tuesday.

Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria, allegedly resisted arrest for a prior sexual battery charge, barricading himself in his home and shooting at officers. The incident led to Frazier being charged with the murder of a federal officer. He now faces life imprisonment or possibly the death penalty if convicted.

On Saturday, July 30, 2011, a U.S. Marshal was on duty in Denver, Colorado. Authorities revealed the victim was Drew Hanson, celebrated as a loving husband, father, and son.

Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche commented on the tragedy, emphasizing the seriousness of Frazier’s alleged actions in causing the death of a committed law enforcement officer. He stated, “The alleged perpetrator is now in custody and will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

The shooting took place on July 13 after U.S. Marshals and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s officers located Frazier and secured a search warrant for his property. Authorities disclosed that Frazier had missed a state court appearance regarding charges of sexual battery against a person with infirmities.

After announcing their presence, officers forced entry into Frazier’s residence. Frazier allegedly barricaded himself in a bedroom, opening fire and injuring Hanson. Following an extended standoff, officers apprehended Frazier.
