Authorities reported that a man fleeing federal immigration agents was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in St. Augustine, Florida. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when a 28-year-old Mexican citizen, along with three others, was stopped at a gas station parking lot. As agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) approached, all occupants fled on foot. During the escape, one ran across a busy road and was hit by a semitruck, resulting in fatal injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the truck driver, aged 64, stopped immediately and attempted to assist the injured man. The FHP is currently investigating the traffic fatality.

The tragedy marks the third death in a week involving individuals either fleeing or encountering ICE agents. In Texas, another man was shot dead after allegedly attempting to ram agents with his vehicle. Similarly, in Maine, a separate incident resulted in a shooting fatality while inside a vehicle.

Following the incident in Florida, the administration instructed ICE agents to end most vehicle stops, indicating a significant policy change. The halt aims to prevent further such tragic events.
