Fireworks Malfunction at BMO Stadium during Angel City FC Game

A fireworks display went wrong at BMO Stadium on Friday night, sending fireworks into the crowd and causing fans to seek safety. Angel City FC faced Orlando Pride, returning from a break to win 2-0. Despite the victory, it was the post-game fireworks that drew attention.

Videos show fireworks filling the field with sparks and smoke. The intended finale took a dangerous turn as fireworks shot horizontally toward the occupied stands. Jade Greenhut, a season ticket-holder, captured the chaos from her club seat. She began recording as fireworks approached the Angel City team bench. Her video features a woman’s voice exclaiming in shock as fireworks launched into occupied areas, causing fans to scatter. Additional fireworks crossed the field into the stands, prompting a man’s off-camera comment about people running.

A spokesperson for the club said, “There were no reports of serious injuries.” Stephanie Rudnick, head of communications, confirmed, “A third-party vendor was responsible for the pyrotechnics.”

In a statement, the team acknowledged a “fireworks malfunction” during the celebration, noting that medical and safety personnel were present. Operations confirmed the stadium was secure and everyone could leave safely. The team is reviewing the incident with the vendor.

Many fans had already left during the interval between the match and the fireworks, leaving seats empty, which helped avoid potential injuries. The air cleared by the time the stadium was vacated. Greenhut’s ticket ambassador later apologized, explaining similar events for the Los Angeles Football Club went smoothly. Greenhut enjoyed the game but suggested considering drones for future entertainment.
