Sophie Cunningham’s Viral Gesture Sparks Internet Trend

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham gained widespread attention for her gesture towards Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner during a recent game. This moment quickly turned into a popular meme online, even catching the attention of major figures, including posts from the White House.

The viral meme has made its presence felt in various places, such as wrestling events. During a ‘Friday Night SmackDown’ event at Boardwalk Hall Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey, wrestlers Chelsea Green and Tiffany Stratton mimicked Cunningham’s gesture during their match against Jade Cargill’s team.

“When WWE meets WNBA,” Green commented on social media platform X after the match.

The wrestlers’ match saw Cargill’s team defeat Flair, Stratton, and Green. Cunningham discussed the post by the White House while speaking to reporters. She mentioned that she doesn’t give much thought to who posts it anymore, as it seems everyone worldwide is sharing it.

Cunningham addressed the technical foul she received for the gesture during the game against the Mercury. She described it as “the weakest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” emphasizing that she didn’t speak during the incident and was simply pointing. The game ended with Indiana Fever defeating the Phoenix Mercury 86-77.

Cunningham humorously added, “I couldn’t help myself. I could not. She was losing her s— and all I was doing was literally pointing.”
