President Donald Trump has officially nominated Keith Sonderling, currently acting as Labor Secretary, for the permanent role. Sonderling has been effectively managing the department during his interim period.

The position became available after Trump’s initial appointee, former GOP congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer, resigned. Her tenure lasted just over a year and ended following accusations of civil rights violations and an alleged inappropriate relationship with an employee. Chavez-DeRemer faced reports of limited office presence as well. Despite these allegations, she has denied any misconduct.
