Empowerment Through a Unique Gathering: Bald Meet-Up in Washington Square Park

A unique gathering took place on Saturday in Washington Square Park. About 100 people, mostly men but some women, participated in a ‘Bald Meet-Up’. This event was designed to foster a sense of community and empowerment among those who are bald.

For many attendees, embracing baldness had been a long journey. The gathering provided a supportive environment where they could feel proud and unashamed.

Despite the rain, many participants chose to leave their hats at home, openly celebrating their baldness. Phil Myers, a comedian, addressed the crowd, sparking enthusiastic chants of ‘Bald is beautiful!’ and ‘Bald! Bald! Bald!’

Justin Bradford, a freelance video producer, organized the event. He sold unique ‘I Love New York’ T-shirts, featuring a bald head in place of the heart. Bradford, 31, noted that while bald people might not always face overt discrimination, there can be societal perceptions of being unfortunate. He emphasized that gatherings like this challenge those perceptions, especially when standing together.
