The U.S. Park Police is asking the public for help in identifying a person captured on camera. They are part of an investigation into damage at the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday around 3:36 p.m.
Footage shared by the police shows an individual kneeling beside the Reflecting Pool, extending an arm into the water. The individual appears to have dark hair, wearing a gray shirt and black shorts, and carrying a light-colored handbag.
Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward with information.
The incident coincides with an earlier attempt by President Donald Trump to refurbish the Reflecting Pool. This attempt led to paint peeling and algae discoloring the intended “American Flag Blue” appearance to a green hue. Several arrests and citations were made related to these issues.
According to Trump, individuals allegedly used a sharp tool to damage the Reflecting Pool’s surface. “They went down with a box cutter or a sharp razor and started ripping it up,” he said.
Trump speculated the pool was damaged due to what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” He suggested that water would be released for repair work. He also mentioned the possibility of fertilizer being poured into the pool, causing algae growth.
“They poured acid on the grass,” Trump stated, referencing lawns around the Reflecting Pool. He claimed this action contributed further damage.
The National Park Service and contractors are actively working to clear algae from the pool. Employees use vacuums to address the issue. Additionally, Trump noted that chemicals were “illegally placed in the water,” impacting the pool’s condition.
Repairs are ongoing as authorities continue to investigate the situation.
