Recently released video footage from a police officer’s body camera and a surveillance camera captures the aftermath of a tragic incident at a Texas high school running track. This took place during a meet last year, where a teenager was fatally stabbed by an athlete from a rival team in the stadium bleachers.

Karmelo Anthony, now 19, was found guilty of murder on June 10 for the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Anthony received a sentence of 35 years in prison. His defense of self-defense was not accepted by the jury. The Collin County court released these videos as part of the evidence after the trial ended.

The surveillance footage shows the track and bleachers on a rainy day. A figure in a gray sweatshirt appears from behind a yellow tent and sprints down the steps. Although the video lacks sound, it shows this person tripping near the bottom of the bleachers, then continuing to run along a fence separating the bleachers from the track. The individual briefly looks back at someone seemingly chasing them, then resumes running.

Eventually, the person is joined by an unknown individual. They talk, hug, and are joined by a third person. After more conversation, Anthony walks toward the fence where he meets a police officer. The officer then handcuffs Anthony and escorts him to a police vehicle. Anthony follows the officer’s instructions but begins to cry, saying, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me.” The officers then secure him in a police cruiser.
