Caitlin Clark expressed her disappointment in the postgame press conference following the Indiana Fever’s 113-96 defeat to the Atlanta Dream. She appeared dejected, citing the team’s excessive fouling during their second-half performance. The Fever committed 29 personal fouls, which impacted their play.
“What we did well in the first half was play in transition, spray, find open people. It’s really hard to do that when all we do is foul and they score,” Clark commented.
The game saw Clark make seven of the Fever’s 19 turnovers. She acknowledged that improvement in ball handling needed to start with her.
In addition to the turnovers, there was a viral moment when Clark rolled her eyes while being addressed by White, highlighting the tension during the game.
White addressed the fouling issues, noting that it might be a combination of their play and the referees’ calls.
“I think a little bit of both,” White said when asked if the issues were due to the team’s actions or referee decisions. “There’s been an emphasis to call a lot of fouls. We’ve seen fouls called increase overall. Individually and collectively, we need to ensure we’re not putting ourselves in those positions.”
Clark encountered several emotional moments, including an early game altercation with the Dream’s Jordin Canada and Angel Reese. After being fouled, Reese swiped at the ball in Clark’s hands, prompting Clark to respond with a dismissive gesture.
This marked the Fever’s second consecutive loss to the Dream within three days, leading to a 9-7 record. Clark concluded the game with 26 points, three rebounds, and seven assists.
Reese achieved a milestone during this game, recording her 1,000th career rebound in her 79th game, faster than any prior player in WNBA history. The Atlanta Dream now lead the Eastern Conference with an 11-4 record.
