Docudrama ‘Dreams of Violets’ Explores AI’s Role in Filmmaking

The docudrama ‘Dreams of Violets’ recently premiered at the Tribeca Festival. Its debut signifies increased acceptance of generative artificial intelligence technology in Hollywood.

The entire film is crafted using AI. Ash Koosha, the executive producer, stated that production costs were approximately $2,000. The images credit Ash Koosha’s innovation and creativity.

Koosha’s interest in documenting events stems from personal understanding. Though he was in London during a government crackdown in Tehran, he recognized the limited availability of reliable information. This motivated him and his brother Pooya Koosha to create ‘Dreams of Violets.’ The 75-minute docudrama portrays scenes like weapon unloading, street fires, and a child observing the turmoil. The creation took place within a London apartment, devoid of actors, physical sets, or traditional filming equipment.

‘Speed matters here, right?’ stated Koosha, who fled Iran in 2009. He emphasized the urgent need for storytelling amid chaotic events where journalists and humanitarian organizations are striving to verify information.

The movie serves as a memorial during times when conventional journalism proves challenging.

While Koosha authored the script, AI made the production feasible without the use of actors or cameras, highlighting a new frontier in filmmaking.
