Atlanta Dream Shines in Win as Angel Reese Sets Record

The Atlanta Dream showcased a commanding performance on Saturday by defeating the Mystics 109–77 in a key Commissioner’s Cup game. Rhyne Howard led the charge for Atlanta, scoring 19 points. She impressed with 71% shooting from three-point range, along with contributing three assists and six steals. Allisha Gray also made her presence known with 15 points and five assists, successfully converting 12 out of 15 free-throw attempts.

However, the highlight of the game was Angel Reese. She equaled her season best by scoring 18 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Reese was impeccable in her free-throw attempts, making all 10, and added four steals plus a block to her stats. With this result, the Dream now hold the top record in the Eastern Conference at 7–3.

Reese’s performance marks her surpassing 50 double-doubles within her first 75 career games. This achievement places her among only four basketball players, across both the WNBA and NBA, who have reached this milestone. Reese is now on the brink of matching Blake Griffin’s record for most double-doubles within the same timeframe. Her achievement comes just a day before the Dream’s upcoming match against the Chicago Sky, the team that previously traded her away.

In late 2025, Reese publicly expressed her discontent with the Sky’s progress. She stated to the Chicago Tribune that she may need to reconsider her future with the team if conditions didn’t improve. Due to her remarks being labeled “detrimental to the team,” the Sky suspended her for half a game, leading to a rupture in their relationship. Eventually, on April 6, 2026, Reese was traded to Atlanta for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.

Dream’s General Manager, Dan Padover, acknowledged Reese’s exceptional talent, stating she fits perfectly within Atlanta’s plans. Her early games with Atlanta have exhibited her potential, and her debut saw her becoming the fastest in WNBA history to reach 50 career double-doubles in just 65 games. This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record held by Tina Charles, who needed 75 games. Now, Reese aims to surpass Blake Griffin’s record in the all-time first-75-games list.
