Graham Platner Addresses Allegations in First Interview

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner addressed recent allegations against him in a national media interview on Thursday. The allegations were detailed in a New York Times report where ex-girlfriends accused him of rape fantasies, heavy drinking, and violent encounters.

One specific incident described in the report involved Platner allegedly pulling an ex-girlfriend from a taxi and pushing her into a bedroom, shutting the door behind them. Platner denied these claims during an appearance on MS NOW’s “All In with Chris Hayes.”

Denial of Physical Altercations

Platner emphatically stated, “No, it did not.” He insisted that the allegations of physical violence and knowledge of specific tattoos were politically motivated fabrications. He acknowledged struggles with alcohol and personal relationships but maintained that accusations of physical abuse were false.

“There are some allegations in this piece that I just want to be unequivocal about are simply not true. Anything alleging physicality, anything alleging that I knew what my tattoo was, these are the statements of someone who’s politically motivated in this piece.” – Graham Platner

Platner has acknowledged his struggles after combat service, citing a challenging period in his life that he has openly addressed in his campaign. However, he rejected the specific allegations of physical abuse.

Political Response and Controversies

In response to the article, Platner’s campaign critiqued a witness, Lyndsey Fifield, identifying her as a lifelong GOP operative focused on electing Republicans.

Platner has previously faced scrutiny over a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol and controversial past comments on Reddit. Additionally, reports revealed Platner sent explicit messages to several women while married. His wife, Amy Gertner, informed campaign staffers of this issue but later defended him in a video statement.

As controversies continue, Platner remains committed to his Senate campaign, maintaining his stance against the allegations and seeking to address other challenges in his personal history.
