Left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker voiced his displeasure after his favored candidate fell behind in the California primary. The election sought to fill the seat left by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
During a broadcast, Piker criticized California, accusing it of promoting ‘homo-fascism.’ This comment was directed at State Senator Scott Wiener, who along with San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, will compete in the upcoming November election. Wiener was leading with 41% of the vote.
Piker’s comments centered around his disappointment with the level of progressiveness in California, criticizing it for what he sees as a narrow focus on LGBTQ issues.
‘It’s just rich liberals who want homo-fascism,’ Piker stated. ‘They want gay techno-fascism.’
Responding to claims of homophobia from viewers, Piker defended his remarks, arguing that California’s liberal policies are limited.
Piker stated, ‘California’s liberalism begins and ends with abortion rights and LGBTQ protections. Wokeness is limited here.’
He criticized the state’s lack of concern for economic issues, such as housing affordability and public transport access.
Fox News Digital sought a response from Piker regarding his comments. During his stream, he also criticized Scott Wiener for allegedly insincere comments about Israel.
Additionally, Piker supported Saikat Chakrabarti, the former chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in the primary. Chakrabarti did not advance. Piker featured candidates like California gubernatorial hopeful Tom Steyer and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman on his streams. Both candidates are currently in third place in their respective races.
